Project: Silverback
Project: Silverback is a sci-fi horror comic I’ve been on and off writing for the past 5 years. It started off as an RPG (and, honestly, still might be) that explores themes of humanity, found family and reflections of the current political climate in relation to societal differences/the effects of AI.
On the surface, V/DA is a company that develops cybernetic parts for people who have lost limbs, have physical ailments that require transplants, and even offers cosmetic cyber-surgeries to those that can afford it in the era of futurism. Under the surface, however, V/DA invests it’s main branches into cyborg warfare, as well as AI and its potential to control and manage the ever-growing power grid of the city of Ether. When the AI, dubbed The Echo, breaks free of its confines and threatens to shut down everything that relies on its electrical input, from disabling cybernetic hearts, limbs and vital organs in people who have had them replaced with machines to essential cooling and filtering systems that keep the city’s air and water supply clean and safe, V/DA’s only choice is to declassify its other military-trained experiments to fight the AI before it’s too late.
This includes Silverback, a victim of war who was taken by V/DA as a child and unethically experimented on over the years to test the potential of cyber-soldiers. After repeatedly proving her unstable defiance of orders, she was been classified and locked away, under the surveillance of the second protagonist Dr. Angie Obote - that is until there is no choice but to attempt deploying her to fight The Echo. She and the other chosen candidates, who all fall on a spectrum of pro to anti-cybernetic advancement - from pre-advancement purists to members of a cult dedicated to an AI God - must all figure out how to overcome their differences and work together to save the people of Ether.
